What would you like to know about creating, promoting, publishing, and making a great living from writing fiction?
What’s important? What do I need to make a living as an author?
- A great idea
- The ability to turn that idea into a great book
- Some sound business sense
- Good Branding
- An online presence
- Willingness to put in the effort
One question I get a lot on the book side of things — “How do you come up with ideas?”
I’m going to be honest. I have more ideas pop into my head over the course of a week than I could write in a lifetime. The hardest part for me is sifting through the landslide and picking the one I want to develop into something spectacular that readers will love. I’m a storyteller. I always have been. If you are a storyteller, you know you are because the stories never stop coming.
Another question I get on the publishing side is — “How do you find people that want to buy your books?”
A lot is word of mouth. But I start with social media. I make friends. Join readers groups. Participate in clubs. I use Facebook and twitter marketing to put my name in front of readers that might like my books. This question is so broad that my answer could go on and on for pages. But I don’t want to bore you with that.
